SVG’s victory last year in Chicago was a historical moment in the NASCAR world, and an exhibit dedicated to the first NASCAR street race acknowledges this, featuring his race suit and boots from the event as part of the display.
"It's a privilege, that's for sure," said van Gisbergen.
"You obviously dream of winning a race, but we were not sure how we were going to go. It’s such a different world to what I’m used to and where I’ve come so to have a great race and to win the race was pretty unexpected, but a pretty awesome moment.
SVG’s win on NASCAR debut was a feat that hadn’t been achieved in 60 years, last achieved by Johnny Rutherford in 1963.
SVG’s full-time season has produces a mixed bag of results as the Kiwi learns oval racing and the Xfinity car, with a P3 in Atlanta a highlight.
SVG will be back in the seat this weekend at another short oval course in Martinsville, Virginia.
